Founded in 1893 as the "Swiss Association of Supervisors (alt. Foremen)“. As of 1988 under the name Swiss Managers SMO.

Members: 12’222 (31.12.2011) divided into 21 regional groups (Regions) & 3 national groups of professionals.

Swiss Managers SMO brings together executives and experts from all branches of the Swiss economy. The SMO’s modern and dynamic management provides its members with a high-quality service. The SMO helps its members:
• to establish a large network
• to build their careers through continuing education
• with career advice and coaching
• with legal advice .

The SMO represent the interests of its members in various areas like economy, society and politics. All members can benefit from numerous services to more favourable conditions, e.g. continuing education or health insurances.

• The regional magazines Handelszeitung (German), PME (French) and Ticino Management (Italian) are media partners of the SMO.
• Free legal advice and protection in the field of labor law and social insurance (for active members). Legal protection via the insurance SMO-MULTI covers additional areas such as private legal issues and road traffic incidents.

Since 2009 SMO is a full fledged Member of CEC European Managers (based in Brussels), the umbrella organization for european Manager-Organizations.
